ZOOMA Recap, Weekend Highlights and Running Shorter Distances

Happy Monday!  Though I’d rather be playing!  That’s what this weekend was about!  Playing, running, family time and food prepping!

I ran the ZOOMA Women’s 10K Saturday morning.  Friday, after work I headed into the city to pick up my race stuff!  ZOOMA did a great job with the swag.  Driving into the city on a Friday is about as much fun as a sharp stick to the eye!  Gosh, I’m so glad I don’t have to make that commute anymore!

I picked up my gear, met some other race ambassadors and grabbed dinner!

I also purchased my first Fellow Flowers shirt.  These shirts are amazing.  I wanted all of them.  I love the messages on the back!  I went with the Red/Strength one!

ImageRace morning was spectacular!  Perfect conditions and a beautiful sunrise!  I ended up running pretty well.  The downfall at being at the head of the pack is that there is no one really to follow.  The course wasn’t mapped out to well and in my opinion there weren’t enough volunteers to direct to people.  I was a bit lost around the five-mile mark which ultimately slowed me down a little.  In the end I ran a 7:50 pace and finished in 48:38.  I placed 6th overall and 1st in my division.  It was a new 10K PR for me so I got the awesome  PR medal and then all finishers got a little necklace.  I was slightly disappointed by the necklace.  I’m a medal kind of girl.

I got that fun coffee mug for placing in my division which was a nice touch!

Here is a pic with some of the other ambassadors before the race started.

Image copy 3Of course I had to get a few snapshots of the weather!  Below is the sunrise on race morning, post race waterfront shot and then a sunset shot when the Hubs and I were out Saturday night!

Image copy 2I don’t know about you, but sunrises like this are the reason I get up to run!!  Simply spectacular!

After coming home to shower on Saturday we turned back around and headed to an awesome fun music and street festival back in the city!

Image copyLots of dancing and good times!  Hubs and I went out Saturday night and yesterday was another busy day of parties and family time.

I’ve really been enjoying these shorter runs and races!  I’m still not 100% healed and need to spend time strengthening and working on my hamstring.  I don’t have anything on the race calendar for a few months but that can all change!  Looking back on the last four months I’ve done three 1/2 marathons, two 5k’s, one mud run and a 10k!   I say it’s been a pretty eventful running season and it’s not over yet!

What’s on your race calendar and do you have a favorite distance?  Stop back tomorrow for an awesome new giveaway!

I LOVE that Zooma PR medal! I hoped to get it in Austin but no dice. It’s a lovely well put together race and Chicago was so beautiful it looks like. Congrats!

  3. Congrats on a great race! And thanks for sharing the beautiful photos! I’m training for the Richmond Marathon in November, but I’ll do a few tune-up races in September, including a local 10K and a 15-mile trail race. I’m hoping the 10K feels short after all of my long runs. I think the 10K is the most brutal race distance. Definitely more than twice the pain of a 5K!!

  4. Congrats on the PR! I don’t know that I have a favorite distance, but I really want to try another 10k. I’ve only done one, but it was fun!

Awesome time Laura! Congrats on your PR. I’m currently training for MCM and running a few half marathons in there too. I’ve got RNR Virginia Beach in a couple weeks and then Hartford ING in CT in October.

  6. Congrats on a great race! I ran the half and was frustrated with the lack of volunteers. At one point a few of us even missed the turn and had to run the inner trail to catch back up. Clearly that slowed things up a bit.
