The weather for yesterday was supposed to be FINE! It was going to be perfect! In fact this was what things looked like when I was driving to the race yesterday!
Picture perfect skies and wonderful cool temps! I slept terribly Saturday night but I was determined not to let that affect my race!
I got to Highland Park with plenty of time to spare. Parking was easy and I immediately met my running partner in crime!
Debbie and I don’t run together, but we spend our days talking about running, food and blogging! Oh and here’s my other secret in case you haven’t figured it out by now, Debbie is also my work “spouse.” It’s a match made in heaven! The weather looks OK in this picture! I think this is right before it all went south!
We attempted to wait in line for the port-o-potty and then I got nervous and just wanted to get into my corral. The race organizers told us that the rainy down pour was going to be moving out in 15 minutes! WRONG!
The race started promptly at 6:50 and I was off! Running in the rain with no visor or anything to wipe the wetness from my face! This wasn’t supposed to happen!! Nevertheless, I had to go with it!
The rain continued for 5 miles! It wasn’t horrible but it wasn’t great either. Thankfully, Highland Park is loaded with tree lined streets which was a huge help!
I had to pee around mile 4! I’ve never had to stop before, but I knew there wasn’t a chance I was going to make it! I was soaked but I think I was in and out in under a minute!
I saw a friend cheering me on at mile 6! Huge help!! I was cruising though! Pacing well and PR visions were dancing in my head! I didn’t want to get ahead of myself!
There is the dreaded hill at mile 8 which is practically a mountain! I hustled up the hill and kept on going! Still pacing around the 7:31 mark at this point! Miles 9 till the end flew! There were some rolling hills but nothing bad!
Here’s how it all worked out!
Not only did I PR but I killed my previous PR by about 7 minutes! Pacing at 7:37 and finishing in under 1:40 WITH a bathroom break! I was thrilled and proud and soaking wet!! I also learned later on in the day that I finished #9 in my division! Thank to Tabata Bootcamp and a winter of HIIT training for making me so fast!
I got to see my wonderful family during the final stretch! Sara was proud and jumping up and down!
This was a shot of us after the race! We didn’t stick around at all! The rain was coming down and the family was COLD and wet!
We were home around 9am and I thawed in a hot shower and then did some meal prep! We all decided it was a great day to relax and watch movies!
I also braved Costco in the cold and rain and got some shopping done. Sara’s birthday party is next Sunday and I haven’t done a thing! It’s going to a busy week!
The Chicago Women’s 1/2 marathon is in 3 weeks and I am THINKING about doing it! It’s an early morning race and it’s supposed to be wonderful! Has anyone ever done it? City races are always such a hassle but I am seriously thinking about it since I am clearly trained and ready.
Thoughts? Did anyone else race this weekend? I’ll be back tomorrow with a great giveaway! Be sure you come check it out! Here’s a BIG HINT!
Have a great day!
