WIAW: A Day In the Life with a 7 week old baby

Happy WIAW.  I  haven’t done a WIAW since Ben was born and in light of the fact that my days are VERY different I thought I would do one… let’s begin


12:30am-B’s up to eat.  He went down around 8:45 with no issues so I get up an nurse him and he goes right back down

12:55am– Back to bed!  I know the first stretch is always the longest so I’ll be up in a couple of hours.

3:15am– B’s up again!  Feed him and change him since he is very wet and his PJ’s are a bit wet too.

3:45am– Back to bed

5:55am – B’s up!  Quick feed and he goes right back down

6:15am– I get dressed and head downstairs for a quick run!  Time to sweat and watch Transparent.

6:20am- Sara pops downstairs dressed in her green clothes and ready for the day.  Thankfully I can finish my run.

6:45am– Workout done- It’s fast but at least I got it in! 2 miles in under 19 minutes… plus about 10 minutes of core work!

6:50am-7:00am Pump- I’ve been building up a supply for when I return to work.  I pump 1-2 times a day depending on the day

7:05am– Make Sara her requested green smoothie in honor of St. Patrick’s day.  Everyone is Irish today right!?!  Shhh, don’t tell her that their is kale in her peanut butter and banana smoothie!!  She loves it!!


7:10am– Hop a very fast shower and get dressed!

7:15am Kiss the Hubs goodbye.. he leaves for work and thankfully emptied the dishwasher!!  One less thing to do this morning

7:25am– Breakfast for me– Quick and easy today since B is still sleeping and I NEED to be productive.


7:40am– Play  and read with Sara, make her lunch and get a little blogging done.  B is starting to stir a little bit

7:50am– Sara leaves for school!  Kiss her goodbye and off she goes.

7:55am– B’s up– it’s as though he knows

8:00-8:30am– Feed and change

8:30am– Play, sing, read… repeat


9:10am– Swaddle B up and put him down for a nap.  First attempt in his crib is a fail so I put him in the rock n play and he goes down.

9:15- 9:45am– Write thank you notes and catch up on some emails.

9:50am- Snack time or breakfast #2… This mama is always hungry!!  Oh She Glows Granola with homemade almond milk!  THE BEST


10:00am– B is still sleeping 🙂  So I prep myself a massaged kale salad for lunch!!

10:15am– Sit down and relax for the first time today!!

10:20am– B’s up… shocking right?! 🙂  No rest for this lady!

10:25-11:35am– Eat, change.. clean up from massive blowout.. play, read.. etc

11:40am– B shows sleepy signs so it’s back to the swaddle to get ready for a nap.

11:55am- B’s asleep in the rock n play

12:15pm– Lunch- Massaged kale salad that I made earlier.  The only thing I wish I had is an avocado!  Salad is topped with dried can berries, walnuts, pecan parmesan cheese and chickpeas.


12:45pm B is up from his nap.  I wish he would nap longer

12:50-1:50pm Feed, play.. etc

1:55pm Time to get out of the house.  We head to Target quickly and B falls asleep in the car and sleeps while I shop VERY quickly in Target.

2:40pm B wakes up while we are checking out and has a massive crying fit on the way home.  He maybe slept 35 minutes.  I have no idea but he is NOT happy.  Our ride home is less then 5 minutes but boy is he screaming.  I unload him and then he falls back asleep.  Go figure right! I’m starting to think this kid is going to need a pacifier.  I’m trying to avoid it but I’m wondering if he would nap better.

2:55 I grab an apple and snack on these and drink a bottle of water.


3:15pm– Sara get’s dropped off from school. We catch up on all the St. Patrick’s Day fun.

4:00pm– The Hubs comes home from work

4:30pm  The little man WAKES UP– I can’t believe he ended up sleeping that long

5:00pm  Feed the little guy and make a simple dinner because the Hubs is leaving at 5:15

5:25pm– Sara and I sit down to dinner.  I have butternut squash and chicken quinoa soup.  Something I made and froze last month plus asparagus.  Nothing exciting but I needed simple tonight!


5:50pm I swaddle up the little guy and he goes down really nicely for another nap

6:00pm Play with Sara, pack lunch for tomorrow and clean up around the house and work on this post while Sara colors

6:30pm– B wake’s up- I guess they all can’t be 2 1/2 hour naps.  We do our thing…

6:45pm The Hubs gets home and plays with Sara while I am feeding and changing B

7:00pm Shower time for Sara while I play with B in his room

7:15pm Story time for all of us 🙂

7:30pm Sara goes to bed and B has one more quick nap on me while I finish this post.  Yes, I have learned how to blog with a sleeping baby on me.  I’m thinking about some popcorn with coconut oil for one more snack before bed or maybe some kind of nut butter snack!

Sometimes I wonder where the days go… now I guess I know! I can’t believe the little man is 7 weeks old already.  7 weeks of pregnancy went so SLOWLY… but these last 7 weeks have flown by!!

  2. Seriously your day made me exhausted and you forget how hard it is to have a newborn. He is so so yummy adorable though. I don’t know how you have energy to run and blog and do everything else. The days sure do go by fast-my baby is turning 18 in a few days!! Have no idea how that happened

  7. I have a 3-1/2 month old and I really enjoyed reading your day with your 7 week old. You are a pro with getting baby down to sleep (or he is a great sleeper). I am also impressed you are already working out… I am slowly working back up to it – but I guess every mama is different. Just like every baby! Love the look of that massaged kale salad!!

  9. Laura, this is my first time on your blog (found you throughthe WIAW link up), and I have to say CONGRATULATIONS on baby Ben! I have not gotten the chance to browse through your blog, but I hope all is well and that is was a healthy pregnancy for both you and your sweet baby.

    You have a CRAZY life, and I admire any mom for doing what you do. I cannot imagine it is easy having disruptive sleep every night, but you are taking such good care of that boy. Also Sara- she’s a beautiful gem! Great smile. 🙂

    In addition, you eat pretty dang healthy for being go go go! How on earth do you have time to massage kale?! Basically- you’re a rockstar is what I am trying to get at. I am only a freshman in college, so I have not the faintest idea of what it is like to be a mom, but I have a feeling you are very efficient at it.
