Smoked Paprika Hummus Recipe and Runners Feet

Ever since I bought my wonderful Vitamix I’ve stopped buying hummus and almond milk!  Those are the two of the weekly staples and often I find myself making both the hummus and the almond milk more then once a week!  I love creating new hummus recipes and it’s seriously so easy!  Don’t have a Vitamix?  Just use your food processor!

Smoked Paprika Hummus Recipe

Serves: 6-8
Another great and easy appetizer for your next party or keep it for yourself!
  • 1 15oz can of garbanzo beans drained and rinsed
  • 3 Tablespoons of sesame seeds
  • 1-2 Tablespoons of Olive Oil
  • 1 Tablespoon of Smoked Paprika
  • Juice of 1 Lemon
  • Optional: 1 teaspoon of sea salt
  1. Combine all ingredients into your food processor and process until creamy!
  2. Serve with veggies, crackers, pita or on top of a salad!

Make sure that you are using smoked paprika!



On a less appealing note but one many can relate to,  I want to talk about my toes!  Or really I should say I want to talk about toes of a runner!  I’ve drastically cut back my mileage and have lost 2 toe nails since!  Huh?  That brings the grand total to 3 toe nails.  I’m getting a mani/pedi today and wonder if I should ask for a discounted rate!  Hah

I lose 1-2 toenails each year and it’s never painful and it always grows back.  Thankfully, with the help of polish I can typically cover up the missing nails.

This is the before shot!  After my pedicure today I am hoping they look a lot better!  Anyone else have toe nail issues?  It’s pretty much known that if you run you can expect to not have the nicest feet.


Ok enough about my feet!  Busy day today!  Going for a run, PT, training a client at the house this morning, mani/pedi and Sara and I are getting haircuts!  Gosh, I love haircut day!  I wait till I can’t stand my hair any longer and then make appointments for us!

  1. I want to start making almond milk in my Vitamix! Any tricks I should know about? I just keep forgetting to get a cheese cloth. I’ve never lost a toe nail, but I have one toe in particular that is pretty ugly. Nothing a pedicure can’t hide, though! 😉

    I have had the toenail issue! I thought it was something I should just accept, but when I recently got new shoes, the employee (a runner himself at a specialty running store) said that two things cause the black/falling off nails and both can be avoided – shoes too tight in the toe cage, and sub-consciously gripping with your feet.

    I fixed the shoe probably, obviously, and have been focusing on not gripping – and so far, so good! Concentrating on your toes helps distract from other running woes on long runs, too 😉

    I always end up losing at least 2 nails when I train for a marathon. I currently have 2 right now that want to go and I’m holding on to them as long as I can! I don’t have any pain so it’s not a big deal. The nails are just holding on at the base of the nail bed. Polish can do wonders for runners feet! 😉

  4. For the most part, my nails are ok but my feet are dry and callusey and always give the pedicure people a run for their money. I am going Thursday and can’t wait!

    This recipe looks awesome! I make tons of hummus and usually sprinkle my paprika on top. I love the idea of adding it into the flavor. I’ll have to bust out my tahini from Israel and whip up a batch!

    I too usually lose a toenail or two a few months after a marathon. I find buying my running shoes (Newtons) a half size larger gives me more room in the toe box. I also like the Injinji toe socks.

    I keep my toenails super short and buy my running shoes 1/2 size bigger than my other shoes – I think in my entire running career (20+ years) I’ve only lost a couple of toenails.

  7. I just made hummus in my Vitamix two days ago. It’s so easy and tastes delicious! Love the idea of using smoked paprika–I’ll have to try that.

  8. My mom bought me some smoked paprika from Penzy’s a few months ago and I love it! It adds so much flavor to whatever I make. I bet it is great in hummus! Thanks for the idea. 🙂
