Where I’ve Been?!?… Chicago Marathon Taper, Race Day Thoughts and MORE…

So apparently training for a marathon, adjusting to being back at work full time and managing the kids and family stuff allows for ZERO blogging time.  I’m not surprised though.  I’ve honestly thought about writing a post about a 1/2 dozen times but it just never happened.

I’m linking up with Katie for an edition of MIMM!  It’s been awhile… !

Nevertheless, here we are about a month after my last post and less then 2 weeks to go until marathon day!  When I started back at work last month I was in the thick of training.  Weekly mileage was between 45-52 miles and I am proud to say that I made it through and am enjoying the taper… well kind of enjoying the taper.

I forgot how much the taper really messes with your mind.  There were mornings earlier this month that I was flying through 8-10 miles of pounding the pavement before I even got to work.  This week my longest weekday run will be a measly 5 miles.  I should be enjoying the extra rest time but not so much.

I’ve got big goals for this race now that we are 16 weeks into the training. (Dreaming about a BQ)  But we all know that these goals boil down to race day weather.  It’s probably the one thing I hate about training for a race.  You work so hard all season and race day results are often dependent on the weather. Anything goes in Chicago.  In 2006 when I ran my first race it snowed at the start and in 2010 is was blazing hot.  Obviously I prefer the cold!

Regardless, I have no control over the weather (but I wish I did) and I will just have to go out there and run my best race.  I’m totally ready for it though.  Can’t wait!!!

Highlights from Saturday’s run (my last double digit run.. and boy was it speedy!!)

The Hubs, kids and I have been enjoying warm fall fun too on the weekends.  Hard to believe that October is going to be here so soon!

In other random news, I ordered this cookbook Friday night and it was delivered on Sunday morning!

Such amazing recipes and yumminess in here!  I want to make all of it… which also means that I want someone to come over and prep and cook all of it for me.  Can’t wait to read this book!  Lots of great pointers about fueling!!  Has anyone else bought this yet?

Aside from running I’m in my final week of being 35 and I have to say that 35 has been awesome.  I’m pretty certain that 36 will be even better since I’ve got these two to keep me busy and smiling!

Ok so B looks a little serious but it’s hard to get all three of us in a selfie!  He’s going to be 20 months this week is a talking machine!  He keeps us on our toes and laughing every day and his big sister is probably his favorite person!

Tell me what’s been going on with you!!!

Survived the first week!!! Runs, Lice, Birthday Celebrating and MORE…

Hello friends and happy Monday.

I started working on this post last Thursday but I just couldn’t get it together by Friday.  We had Sara’s back to school curriculum night and by the time that day was over I was done!

Great news though…

We totally rocked our first week back to work/school and life!  Seriously, I got my miles in before the day started, we ate dinners at home every night and lunches were packed daily.  It felt like such a win to make to Friday!

Sara had a great first week of 2nd grade!!

The Hubs had an awesome birthday!….

And of course B enjoyed a little bit of chocolate cake.

The couple of hours spent on Sunday food prepping made all of the difference and I did it again yesterday.  No pics taken as I was trying to get everything done as quickly as possible.  I will tell you that I made this lentil salad from Detoxinista and it made more then enough lunches for the week!! If anyone is looking for a good lunch to make for the week I highly suggest it!!

Oh and you know what else happened this week… A MASSIVE lice breakout at Sara’s school.  Sara had lice a couple of years ago at the start of the year and once you have lived through lice you never want to experience it again!  I’ve been giving her some treatments at night and spraying her daily with a homemade spray that I made with my essential oils.

I just happened to get an awesome delivery from the folks at Infinity Jars.   These airtight and glass jars are seriously amazing!!  More coming soon about Infinity including a giveaway!! I can’t wait to create a couple of more things in these wonderful glass jars which are perfect for just about anything!

I was thankful that last week was a mileage cut back week but I still had to run between 6-9 miles in the early morning hours.  My new routine is doing a couple of miles on the treadmill before heading outside.  It’s still dark when I am out running so I am beyond thankful for these awesome Knuckle Lights which have helped guide my morning runs.

The reason I do two miles first on the mill is because I have a fear of running near skunks which tend to be a problem around here when it’s dark.  Not sure how things will play out as its only staying darker longer these days.  Early morning runners, what do you do?

When I woke up Saturday morning there were big time rain storms going on and I thought that I would have to postpone my 14 miler to Sunday but after a 2 hour rain delay it happened…. and despite the post rain humidity it was awesome!

This week it my first of 2 20 milers… With less than 6 weeks to go to race day training is flying by!!  Hard to believe it’s more the 2/3 over.

Anyway friends, I know there was lots crammed into this post but I am still trying to figure out how to blog on a semi regular basis and get runs in, the lunches packed, the dinners on table… etc. etc.  If someone has some more suggestions feel free but for now I am happy that we are surviving and rolling with all of the new adjustments.

Have a wonderful day and week!

And just like that, we are closing the books on Summer 2016

Well my friends… I said it last Monday morning when I started at my new job… but the party is truly over.  Lots of mixed emotions going on over here.

Without a doubt this was truly one of the best summers ever.  The kids were awesome.  The day dates with he Hubs were the amazing and just the fact that for over two months we got to press pause on the craziness of our lives and just live life to the fullest.

Yes it would be fun to be on summer vacation forever but all good things come to an end.

I didn’t blog much… because life got busy!  I’m sure life is going to get busier and crazier so we will see what happens my blog this year.  Just going take things one day at a time.

Today, Sara will start 2nd grade.  The Hubs will embark on another year of teaching and students will come back to school for their first day in the two schools that I am now working in.

Gone are the lazy summer mornings, the sunrise coffee breaks while the kids (or at least one kid sleeps in…)

Gone are the 4pm neighborhood happy hours… we’ll at least until Friday….

But the best part of all of this is that it will be back again… next year.

So what did I do on the final weekend before real life started up again…

Well, I got up Saturday morning and nailed my 18 mile run.   14 dry miles and 4 miles int he POURING rain.  Totally soaked when all when said and done but I got it done.

Hard to believe it’s week 12 of marathon training!  Just a few more long runs and before we know it race day will be here!  Getting soo pumped and excited!

Post run and hot shower,  I ran around to all of the different grocery stores with the family… Whole Foods, Costco (total crazy zoo!!) and Trader Joes.  Good times…Cause really nothing says FUN like running to the grocery stores with your entire family the weekend before school starts.  Ummm…. slightly brutal!

Oh and I also got my amazing shipment of wonderful clothes from Tasc Performance.  Being an ambassador for Tasc is amazing!!  Best mail day ever!

Sunday I was up Waaaaay too early because I couldn’t sleep so naturally I started food prepping before 5am.  I enjoyed the quiet moments I had in my kitchen even if it was still dark out.

I’ve been on tomato, chickpea and quinoa kick for lunches since I’ve had so many tomatoes coming out of my garden.  This week I used the last of them!

Early morning food prepping meant plenty of time to enjoy the beautiful and not super hot Sunday with these three!

Cheers to another school year, new beginning and an awesome and amazing summer.. and a big Happy Birthday to the Hubs who will celebrate tomorrow!

How was your weekend?

Ultimate Coffee Date: August… Saying Goodbye to Summer

Happy Saturday Friends

It’s the first Saturday of month which means it’s time for the Ultimate Coffee Date.

Thanks to Coco @ Got 2 Run 4 MeLynda @ Fitness Mom Wine Country, & Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother for hosting the party.

Let’s catch up since I haven’t blogged a whole lot this summer due to never-ending fun!

If we were having coffee I would tell you that here we are in August.  The summer days are far and few.  Back to school and work meetings start next week for both the Hubs and I.  I officially begin a new chapter at a new job on August, 15th.  I’m excited and nervous!  Excited for the new opportunities and nervous for the being full time for the first time in over seven years!  I think my biggest fear is getting dinner on the table for my family each night.  I’m going to have to step up my Sunday grocery shopping and food prep big time!

If we were having coffee I would tell you that week 9 of marathon training is just about in the books which means we are at the 1/2 way point!!  Just over 2 months until I hit the start line of the Chicago Marathon for the 3rd time and 10 years after my first marathon in 2006!!  My training has been going great even with the super hot summer we have had!  I feel proud and thrilled to be representing the American Cancer Society as a member of their Team DetermiNation.

If we were having coffee I would tell you that I had the most AMAZING time in Park City, Utah.  Probably one of the most beautiful places I have ever been to.

And the running sunrises….

And all the beauty…

Best girls trip ever and I highly recommend checking out Park City if you are ever looking for a fun, active and beautiful vacation with AMAZING foods!

I’ll spare you all the food pics but there was lots of good eats on this trip!

If we were having coffee, I would tell you that this little guy isn’t so little anymore…

B turned 18 months on July 28th and continues to blow our mind!

While he and his sister clearly look like siblings they are SO different.  This little man loves to climb, run get dirty and get into plenty of trouble.  When he falls down he  says, “Uh Oh” and gets back up and resumes his trouble!  He loves spotting airplanes in the sky and taking long walks to say hi to anyone he sees!  He’s so social, engaging, friendly and has the greatest sense of humor!

And he loves his sister more then anyone else!!

If we were having coffee I would tell you that I am beyond proud of the growth that this little lady has made this summer!!  We have had the best summer ever.

No doubt that 7 presents its challenges and as you all know parenting is not all rainbows and ice-cream sundaes but this summer has totally been about making amazing memories and doing all sorts of fun things!!

So while we are getting ready to close the books on summer 2016 I am not too sad since I know that summer of 2017 and those that comes after will probably be just as good if not better!

Speaking of Ice Cream Sundaes… If we were having coffee I would probably tell you that running between 30-40 miles a week means that I am enjoying my fair share of ice-cream.  It’s my summer treat and I made a promise this summer never to say NO to really good ice cream.  In fact I pretty had the best ice cream ever from this amazing little shop in Utah.  I actually told the owner when I leaving that I was sad to be leaving since it was the best ice cream I had ever had!!…  Seriously NO EXAGGERATION!!  and now as I write this I have thoughts of creamy salted caramel.

So that’s it friends.. as you read this I am probably out running my 13 miles (yeah for a cutback week) or enjoying some time with the family and thinking about having ice cream at some point today!

Tell me what’s been going on with you?!

#FueledByProBar: ProBar Bolt Review and Giveaway

Hello Friends

August is upon is which means the summer days are drifting away and we are beginning to transition into a new school year which for me means a new job, more things on the to do list and less time to just enjoy!  Summer has been so amazing so I’m OK with the changes that lie ahead!  I promise to catch all of you up on life at the end of the week for our monthly coffee date.  In the meantime, let’s talk about running and marathon training!

Hard to believe that this is week 9 of 18 of my training for my 3rd Chicago Marathon.  Training has been hard, wonderful and time consuming.  Due to the hot summer we are having it has cut into my sleep but I wouldn’t change it for the world.  I’ve seen amazing sunrises and have treasured my quiet alone time.

To date my morning runs are all fasted runs for me.  This means I wake up, throw on my clothes, shoes drink some water and head out the door.

My weekend runs are a whole different story!

Originally I had planned to train with CARA (Chicago Areas Runner Association) just as I did for my previous two marathons but the Saturday long run group that I would train with starts at 7am.  To me that’s just too late.  Not just because of the weather but because of the day.  I’ve been starting my long runs just before 6am and then I have plenty of time to enjoy my day with the family!

I’m still working on working on the pre-run breakfast but for the most part it’s consisting of banana and almond butter or steel cut and buckwheat groats with almond butter.

ProBar Bolt has been my go to fuel for long runs!  I’ve never been able to stomach the consistency of the GU and the gels but the Bolt chews are AMAZING!!  I prefer the ones with a bit of caffeine as I like a little extra pep in my step when running!

ProBar BOLT® is packed to power you from morning workouts to race days, these organic energy chews help you step up your game right when you need it. With electrolytes, B vitamins and complex carbs for sustained energy, they provide fast fuel-ups that last through the home stretch.

  • Organic Superfruit
  • Yerba Mate Caffeine in 2 Flavors
  • Electrolytes with B Vitamins
  • Excellent During-Activity Fuel

ProBar Bolt comes in four great flavors:

Berry Blast (Caffeine)

Raspberry (Caffeine)

They are so easy to eat while on the run and definitely keep me feeling good as these miles pile up!!    I’m a fan of all things “gummy like”  so these are seriously awesome.  I eat between 4-5 after an hour of running and then another 4 45 minutes or so after my last “dose.” Come race day in October, ProBar Bolt will be fueling me 26.2 miles through Chicago.

For all of you runners our there or athletes looking for fuel now’s your chance to win some!  Thanks to the wonderful folks at ProBar one winner is going to win a case of ProBar Bolt!!
