Marvelous Memories and Sugar DETOX

Happy Monday Folks!  I didn’t mean to disappear again but we’ve been having too much fun!

Sara wrapped up camp on Friday and let me tell you the girl has a whole lot of emotion!  We saw it a few months ago on her last day of preschool.  She waited until we were in the car and burst into tears about missing all her friends and teachers.  This past Friday she started getting sad several days before and when it came time to say goodbye to friends and counselors it was hard.

As a kid I LOVED camp.  I did it all day camp, overnight camp and even worked at camp and spent many summers out east as an overnight camp director.  I think camp teaches you so much!  Did you go to camp?  I can’t wait to watch Sara grow over the summers at camp.

It was a marvelous and wonderful weekend.  The weather was beyond perfect!  We did festivals, pools, dinners out and of course more ice cream.

That brings me to my confession.  With my break from the kitchen this summer (still loving it…)  I’ve got a bit overboard on the sugar and the ice cream.  So in attempt to get ready for the school year and bring back some better habits I am starting a sugar detox today.  Nothing crazy or extreme but eliminating added sugars, refined garbage and junk.  Anyone else want to join me?

No-sugarThe hubs is off for a golf trip today in Florida and Sara and I have the week to get ready for school, play and have some girl time!  I can’t wait!

Are you still enjoying summer or are you back into the routine of school and work?

  1. I don’t know if you want to do this, but I think it’s great when you’re sugar detoxing: eliminating fruit. I think they only add to your sweet tooth because of the flavour. But that’s totally up to you!

  2. I always loves overnight camp growing up and now watching my kids have the same great experience is priceless. Ps we all fall off the wagon from time to time!

  3. Camp’s the best! I attended week-long camp as a kid and then worked at the same camp as a jr. counselor. In college, I worked as a counselor at a camp where kids came for 8 weeks straight. That seemed nuts to me, but it was neat getting to really know the kids.

  4. I can’t believe how quickly the summer has passed and that I’ll be back in school in less than 2 weeks to set up my classroom! I used to do a lot of sports camps with my teams and loved them. I think my favorite part was spending the night in a dorm {a lot of camps were hosted by colleges} and it made me feel so “old” 😉

So ready for the kids to go to school tomorrow, but a little sad too. My little girl is starting Kindergarten tomorrow and though I am so excited for her, it is a little bittersweet how fast they are growing up too. But, with them in school it is definitely time for me to get focused on my habits and I too have slipped quite a bit this summer. I am planning to start a new workout program this week and will also be eliminating added sugars and processed junk from my diet. I have a free week long sugar detox clean eating plan on my site if you need any ideas for meals. Hope you have a great week!

I totally need to join you on the sugar detox. Everything I eat is terrible! How are you planning on doing it? I want to eliminate all the sugary dessert and snacks from my life but I’m worried about not lasting more than a few days!
