I Quit the Gym

How am I closing up the year?  Well I quit the gym!  First off, this clip from Friends makes me laugh out loud.  Actually, everything from Friends makes me laugh out loud. Check this out for a good laugh.  Seriously, if there was a channel that showed Friends re-runs all day long I’d be a one happy girl.

Since I graduated from college, belonging to a gym has always been part of who I am.  When I was a teacher, I was even one of those crazies who worked out before they got to school and would set my alarm to 4:45 am. Once the hubs and I moved in together we continued to both get our butts out of bed at the crack of dawn to hit the gym.  I’ve always been an early morning workout girl.  I do everything better in the morning.  By 9:00, I’m done!  Forget about having me to anything productive in the evenings.

During the spring, summer and fall months, weather pending, I run outside and continue to do so until it’s too cold or too windy.  This year in Chicago I was lucky to get in plenty of November and December runs.  Over the last 6 months, I think I can count on one hand the number of times I’ve been to the gym.  Since my daughter was born in 2009, getting the gym before work isn’t an option.  I’m lucky to get my workout in at 5am but packing a bag, getting in the car and working out somewhere, and then getting ready for the day, forget it!  So, I made the decision a few weeks ago to cancel my membership at the gym.  It’s so weird.  The hubs still goes there as he isn’t quite ready to give it up.  I’ve decided to explore some other fitness options.  I do Bikram yoga about once a week and LOVE it and am looking into some other yoga options.  My goal in 2013 is to try CrossFit.  There are a couple of really close studios near my house but I’m just waiting for good deal.

So 2013 will be the first time that I don’t have a gym membership in over 10 years!  Crazy but I’m ready for it!

Have a wonderful day!  Can’t believe it’s the final day of 2012.  I’m looking forward to 2013 and can’t wait to see what it brings.

Question:  Do you belong to a gym and use it or prefer to workout at home?  Do you enjoy working out in the morning or do so after work or in the evening?

I’m like you, I much prefer working out in the morning. It sets you up for the rest of the day and gives you a great energy boost. Plus, it might just be me, but I feel like workouts don’t take as long in the morning as they do in the evening! It’s great to see that you’ve been able to change and update your fitness routine to accommodate all the new changes in your life. Great post! 🙂 x

I couldn’t imagine not being a member of a gym!! Good for you though!
Also, for yoga deals keep your eyes open for a groupon or livingsocial or dealfind deal. They usually have great options for 5-10 classes.
P.S. Love that Friends epi that you referenced! I wanna quit the gym. LOL!!!
