August is upon is which means the summer days are drifting away and we are beginning to transition into a new school year which for me means a new job, more things on the to do list and less time to just enjoy! Summer has been so amazing so I’m OK with the changes that lie ahead! I promise to catch all of you up on life at the end of the week for our monthly coffee date. In the meantime, let’s talk about running and marathon training!
Hard to believe that this is week 9 of 18 of my training for my 3rd Chicago Marathon. Training has been hard, wonderful and time consuming. Due to the hot summer we are having it has cut into my sleep but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I’ve seen amazing sunrises and have treasured my quiet alone time.
To date my morning runs are all fasted runs for me. This means I wake up, throw on my clothes, shoes drink some water and head out the door.
My weekend runs are a whole different story!
Originally I had planned to train with CARA (Chicago Areas Runner Association) just as I did for my previous two marathons but the Saturday long run group that I would train with starts at 7am. To me that’s just too late. Not just because of the weather but because of the day. I’ve been starting my long runs just before 6am and then I have plenty of time to enjoy my day with the family!
I’m still working on working on the pre-run breakfast but for the most part it’s consisting of banana and almond butter or steel cut and buckwheat groats with almond butter.
