Applegate Winner, Fishy Questions and More

We had a great weekend here!  Loads of family fun time!  Sit down dinners on Friday, Saturday and Sunday night!  We took a family trip to Whole Foods on Saturday for food and picked up dinner.

I rarely make fish in the house in the winter because the smell overtakes the house!  I love to grill it in the summer but in the winter it’s just kind of icky!  Whole Foods was sampling some awesome wild halibut and the hubs asked me buy it for dinner!  We had a great dinner and I seasoned the halibut and then sautéed it on both sides for a few minutes before throwing it in the oven to finish cooking.

It was awesome and so tasty but the house smelled!  Does anyone have any tricks?  We light candles but my clothes smelled like fish too.

I had a great 7 mile treadmill run on Saturday and challenged myself yesterday for the first time to try The Daily Method interval class.  It was much more cardio and an awesome challenge. It’s a 45 minute class and it flew by in no time!  It’s just one more reason I am loving my time there.  They also offer Daily Spin classes but I have never been a spin person!

Polar Vortex round 3 is coming here this week!  Blah!  It won’t be as brutal as round 1 and 2 but the lows are going to be below zero. We are in for some more record setting temps in the final week of February. It’s not bumming me out too much as I know that this has to let up soon!  We spring forward in less than 3 weeks and spring will be here before we know it.  I’m continuing to think spring!

The Olympics are over!  The Hubs is beyond excited about this! I enjoyed it but I am ready to regular TV to come back!  Anyone else with me?

Congrats to #480 Amanda Hall on winning the Applegate Pizza Party in a box giveaway!  Hope you have a great time eating pizza!  Be on the lookout for an email from me

Is it spring year by you?  Any idea on cooking fish inside?

i’m also in the chicago area, so i can’t tell you how BUMMED i was when i heard about polar vortex 3. the city was teasing us with those few days in the upper 30s, and the snow is melted, but it’s still frigid. i’m just trying to keep positive and hope that the weather will at least be decent for my 5k in a couple weeks.

I’m the same way – we rarely have fish in the winter because I hate the way it makes the house smell!

It’s so funny, I cook fish every single night… But I never smell it. Perhaps I am just so used to the smell, LOL! However, there is a sushi restaurant that always leaves a stench in my clothing and I can smell it for days after… Now you’re probably wondering why I don’t wash my clothing, AH HA HA! 😉

You make me want to eat some Halibut!

  4. I feel the same way about the Olympics. I loved them of course, but I am very ready to get back to “my shows.”

  5. I wish I had a solution to stinky fish smell in the house. One word of caution – never ever reheat fish in the microwave. You’ll need to buy a new one!

  6. Oh I miss the grill for fish for sure. I think you can broil it, which is what I typically do. I love seafood! Not spring yet…and more snow to come : ( Maybe one day soon!

The fish smell should be gone by the next morning if you:
-use your stove vent while cooking.
    – make sure to remove garbage bag containing any fish packaging that night. (Get it outside into your covered garbage can)
    – after dinner clean up all pans right away.
    – clean out the sink with baking soda.
