Date Night, Boston Aspirations and Move it Monday

Hope you all had a great weekend!  It was busy over here and we are in a funk of bad weather which is more typical of October then mid April!  I took to my treadmill Saturday morning and bundled up Sunday morning for a run!  I had to get outside.  The forecast for the week looks pretty bad too!  So much for my treadmill, collecting dust!

The Hubs and I got a babysitter Saturday night and tried out a new BYOB in the city!  We rarely venture out of suburbia but this came highly recommended from a friend and it was amazing!  We brought a few drinks and had an excelled dinner at Mixteco Grill.  Parking was free and easy and I had wild salmon and it was fantastic!  For all my Chicago peeps, I highly recommend checking out this place.  The BYOB is an added bonus.  The restaurant was packed and the service was wonderful!!!  We will be back for sure!

So today is the 117th Boston Marathon!  It’s one of my lifetime goals to get there!

The Hubs and I took a trip to Boston in the summer of 2010 when I was training for the Chicago Marathon.  This was as close as I got.

Boston Marathon, Fit Running Mama

At the time I was 30 and to qualify for Boston I needed to run a 3:40 marathon.  I was training at that pace and when I ran Chicago in 2010 I clocked in at 1:50 at the half.  Then the heat got to me and it was all down hill.  I ended up with a 3:53 marathon, no where near Boston time.  After Boston sold out in record time in 2011, they made it harder to qualify and now I would need a 3:35 marathon.  Perhaps when I am older I’ll try again.  It seems a bit unfair that the first age bracket is 18-34.  I think it should be 18-29 and then a 30-34 bracket.  That’s just my thought. What do you think?  I do seem to be getting faster as I “age,”  so maybe one day it will happen!  Have any of you run Boston or want to get there?

It’s been awhile since I have done a Move it Monday so I thought I would throw a great lower body Tabata at you!  You all know how much I love Tabata training!

Round 1: 20 seconds Alternating jump lunges

10 seconds rest

Round 2: 20 seconds Alternating jump lunges

10  seconds rest

Round 3: 20 seconds Ski slope jumps

10 seconds rest

Round 4: 20 seconds Ski slope jumps

Repeat cycle again for a total of 8 rounds!  A great way to start your day and get your heart rate pumping.  I did this sequence on Saturday after a 4.5 mile treadmill run and boy were my legs burning!

Don’t forget about the three giveaways going on over here!  Lots of great things happening!  I’ll be back with an amazing giveaway tomorrow!  Seriously, make sure you come back to find out. Have a great day.

That workout looks tough…I hate plyometrics by myself. I have added the NYC marathon to my bucket list, but don’t think I will ever be fast enough for Boston. My heart goes out to all of the runners, volunteers, spectators and their families today!
