Catching Up on Life with Coffee!!

Hello Friends

I didn’t mean to totally disappear for the last week but have good reason!!  In light of the fact that tomorrow is first Saturday of the month I thought I would catch all of you up on life!

Thanks to Coco @ Got 2 Run 4 MeLynda @ Fitness Mom Wine Country, & Deborah @ Confessions of a Mother for hosting the party!

As I mentioned last Friday in my last post we had a full week of sickness and with my sickness and high fever came a sudden a weird hearing loss.  I woke up unable to hear beeps, tones and other sounds.. which included Sara’s voice. I ended up at the doctor Friday afternoon and was so glad I went.

I got diagnosed on Friday with Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss.  Hearing tests showed a severe hearing loss in both ears!  Doctors were puzzled but recommend I start on a super high does of steroids treatment ASAP.  So Saturday I started taking the meds and also had a steroid injection where the doctor literally put a hole in my ear and injected liquid steroids.  It was the most aggressive treatment plan with hopes to recover my hearing.

The rest of the weekend was a blur.  The meds did me in.  I told the Hubs I felt like I was 8 weeks pregnant again.  Oh and of course I went out Saturday morning to clean my head and run and a mile in a face planted!!  I’m OK– healing but was more frustrated then anything else.  I felt like nothing was in my favor!

Sunday I was back at the doctor with B who got diagnosed with a double ear injection.  Our family was on a roll….

Anyways, some of my hearing has returned that the good news.  I had an MRI as well this week to rule our serious stuff and thankfully that was normal!  I feel out of my skin from the steroids but only have a week to go on them.

We are still waiting for results of blood tests to check for auto immune hearing disorders.  This whole experience has been crazy!!!  Lots of emotions and lots of tears but I am thankful that a good portion of my hearing has returned and I can now hear Sara when she talks!

Blogging took a major backseat this week and I am sure you all understand!

In other news it’s March and the very idea of March makes me so happy even though the ground is covered with snow.  We’ve got a few more weeks until Spring break and I feel like once we we get back from spring break it’s all downhill until summertime!

Signs of summer have started to appear… Costco rolled out organic strawberries yesterday.  So silly… right??!  But it’s truly one of those signs to me that the weather is changing!

Does anyone else feel like once the calendar hits March 1, the idea of winter just fades away? When I was driving Sara to school yesterday I started dreaming about the being able to walk her to school early so she could get in in extra playground time!  We spring forward next weekend and while I don’t remember how that will be for B, I am all about the extra daylight!

I took several days off from working out over the last couple of weeks because my body felt off.  Getting back to the 5am workouts is hard but I always feel so much better once it’s done!  The voices in my head were yelling at me about not working out.  Anyone else have those voices come out when they take extended breaks?

I hope I get to run outside this weekend and can avoid falling on my face or on any other parts of my body.

Yesterday, I had a rare free day where B went to school and I didn’t work!  What did I do… well I tried to organize the house a little bit since the crazy steroids make me a bit batty. I also shopped at Target and Costco (ALONE!!!) and had a nice lunch with my mom before I went for my second ear injection (not so fun!)

This week has certainly had some rough patches but I am looking forward to the weekend!  For the most part we are all healthy over here and I am looking forward to resuming normal family activities!

Next week I promise to be back more regularly and even hope to get a couple of great giveaways up for all of you!

What do you have on tap this weekend?  If we were having coffee what would you tell me?

You were my inspiration for posting with the Ultimate Coffee Date this month so thank you! I hope you start seeing improvements in your hearing. What a strange and scary thing to have happen. It’s great you have a treatment plan underway though. Take care!!

  5. Laura, oh my gosh that is the craziest and scariest thing ever. I have never heard of such a thing. Um wow, sounds like you have been dealing with quite the obstacles. We don’t get much a winter here in California, we are getting some rain finally, but the weather here is always pretty great. Take time getting better and thank you for having coffee with us.
